nless you’re married to Tim Gunn (which would be no small miracle, if ya
know what I mean) and you have no other women in the house with you,
then you’ve been privy to the let down following, “Does this look ok?”
Why my husband never falls to his knees and cries out in praise of my
outfit, I don’t know. What I do know, is that I’ve learned to stop
asking and trust my instincts.
In the event of being visually stumped, there is a new answer that doesn’t involve someone saying, “quit laughing, does it look ok?” It’s the website: gotryiton.com
The site is a community of women who post pictures of outfits they’re
unsure of to elicit yay’s or nay’s from other users. The process is
simple: you post a picture of your outfit and let everyone know where it
is you’re going and what exactly you’re unsure of. Then you wait to
see if people think you should either “wear it” or “change it.” There’s
even constructive criticism offered up and ways to make the outfit
better, which I think is the best part of the whole thing. Even if
you’re pretty confident about an outfit you could post a picture of
it and find new ways to wear it.
I guess the only down side is you have to put an outfit together in
advance of the event you want to wear it to and post it, or sit at your
computer and pray with your finger on “refresh” that other people will
get on and tell you what they think before you walk out the door.
There's no question, the site is wildly more satisfying than the, “um,
yeah, sure” I typically get, and definitely something to help a sister
out.
