A denim jacket is like a good relationship. It’s something
you can always go to, and once you find the one that best suits you, you’ll
never look for any other.
This time of year, a denim jacket is invaluable. They turn
summer dresses into fall-wear, they bring new life to all those
sleeveless shirts you’ve stock piled, and they make even the worst layering
jobs look put together.
You really can’t go wrong with a denim jacket. So how do you
find the perfect one? You try on a lot (not unlike the relationship analogy).
You’ve got to find what you like and don’t like in a jacket.
Do you want dark or light wash?
Do you want silver buttons, or buttons at all?
As far as your shape goes, choose one that hits right at the
hipbone or just a smidge above. Any lower and it will look like denim diarrhea. And if you want to appear as if you have a smaller waist, go
with one that has darts or the slightest angle inward-those are very
flattering.
Also, pay attention to sleeves. Rolling the sleeves of your
jacket can bring it an entirely different look, making it even more versatile
and in turn more valuable, so make sure the one you like has roll-able sleeves.
I found my perfect jacket at a thrift store and once I
bought it, I’ve never looked back. I never understood what all the hubbub was
about until I fell in love with mine, and you will too-there are plenty of
denim in the clothing sea! Get yourself out there and find yours!!
